We have once again compiled figures and documentation for our social and environmental sustainability work into a CSR report.
There is plenty of good news in the report. We have now gained ISO 14001 certification. We have reduced our CO2 emissions by 33% from 2021 to 2022. Our total waste volume in Denmark has been reduced from 162.6 tonnes in 2021 to 95.4 tonnes in 2022.
“It’s a real positive that we have already achieved our CO2 reduction target for 2025. We have seen great efforts from our staff, focusing on how we can have an impact on our overall energy consumption. The high energy prices in 2022 have provided additional impetus, and the CO2 savings have thus gone hand in hand with financial savings. Now, first and foremost, we need to maintain these results and then we need to set new targets,” says CEO Henrik Andersen.
There are also targets that we have not achieved. For example, we have employed fewer people from the fringes of the labour market than we would have liked.
“We regret that we have not achieved our social targets. There are many reasons for this. The high level of employment means that there are fewer unemployed, and those who are may have very difficult problems to deal with. This year has given us cause to take a good look at our operation and reassess our social objectives. One of the things we have decided is that we want to take on more apprentices, but they don’t necessarily have to be from the fringes of the labour market. And we are lowering our expectations and thereby our target for how many employees from the fringes of the labour market we can manage to take on over the year,” says Henrik.
HITSA is now continuing its work to implement specific measures to promote environmental, climate and social sustainability. In 2023, we will begin calculating CO2 emissions in Scope 3 and at product level for our lighting company Lampas. This will form a pilot project for calculating Scope 3 emissions and declaring CO2 emissions for products for the entire HITSA Group from 2024.
With ISO 14001 certification, we now have an underlying framework and a useful management tool for working towards environmental and climate objectives.
