Special design waiting room shelters
When we were chosen as the supplier of waiting rooms for DSB’s station platforms in 2020, it was the start of an exciting framework agreement for HITSA involving production and installation of shelters for rail passengers.
The design for the waiting rooms was already fixed when HITSA came on board as producer. The two types of shelters – one open and one enclosed with doors – have been designed to make passengers feel safe and to ensure accessibility. Glass walls provide good visibility from both inside and out, while a red stripe ensures the glass wall is visible to the visually-impaired and other platform users. The doors on the enclosed model are wide enough for passengers in wheelchairs to use the waiting room. Comfort is also taken into account. The walls of the shelter are surrounded by a ‘skirt’ at the bottom to prevent draughts.
The task for HITSA has been to ensure a smooth transition to using us as a new supplier. Among other things, we are focusing on effective dialogue and continuous communication with DSB and Banedanmark for each individual project.
Safety also plays a major role in this project. The shelters must be able to withstand air pressure from passing trains, and for HITSA, the task therefore is continuous quality assurance and focusing on complying with all standards. Actual installation of the waiting rooms on the station platforms also requires a strong focus on safety. With this in mind, all HITSA employees involved in this work have completed Banedanmark’s safety training for working near tracks.
DSB is Denmark’s largest rail company, with 162 million passenger journeys in 2023. At HITSA, we are proud to be playing a small part in an important piece of infrastructure and in many people’s travel experiences.
