Sustainability: Find LCAs and EPDs for urban furniture from HITSA

You will soon be able to check CO2 emission data for products such as park benches, litter bins and bicycle bollards from HITSA. We want to make it easier for our customers to make data-based decisions when incorporating sustainability into their projects. With this in mind, HITSA has begun producing LCAs for standard products, along with EPDs for selected products. You can download them here on our website or from your preferred EPD database as we complete them.

The first LCA and EPD are now complete for our HH20 bike rack. To be followed shortly by other popular standard products. We will be producing LCAs (Life Cycle Assessment) and EPDs (Environmental Product Declaration) for everything from park benches and bike racks to litter bins and bollards.

“Our customers are increasingly demanding documentation on climate and environmental impact,” explains Josephine. “This is a requirement both from individual design studios and for large tenders and framework agreements. It is really positive that our customers want the means to be able to select products with the lowest CO2 emissions and the least impact on the environment.”

“Moreover, LCAs and EPDs provide useful insight into where our products have the most impact and how we can reduce our footprint through design and development,” says Josephine, and adds that HITSA also requests LCAs and EPDs from its suppliers.

Check CO2 emissions for a park bench or bike rack

As ESG Coordinator, Eva is responsible for obtaining emission figures for materials and processes and preparing LCAs and EPDs.

“The LCAs include CO2 emissions per product version. Summaries will be compiled to enable easy comparison. EPDs are third-party-verified environmental declarations, so are more comprehensive. We are preparing EPDs for selected product versions, in instances where expanded and verified information is needed,” says Eva.

LCA summaries and EPDs will be available to download direct from the individual product pages, but all documents will also be available from the “Certificates and documentation” page.

LCAs and EPDs for urban furniture and lighting

Preparation of LCAs, and EPDs as needed, will be an ongoing project over the next months, with the most popular products to be done first. The process will also cover HITSA’s sister company, lighting manufacturer Lampas.

LCAs for HITSA’s products cover phases A1, A2 and A3 (production stage). EPDs also cover A4 and A5 (construction stage), C1-C4 (end of life) and D (next production system). HITSA has chosen EPD Hub as its partner for verification of its EPDs. All calculations follow ISO and EN standards.
